The Ellendune Community Centre is a large modern multi-use facility offering many and varied function suites of different sizes for all occasions, activities, both social and commercial events.

The centre also has a superb theatrical stage, which is itself the second largest in Swindon after the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon centre. Being a venue that boasts one of the larger amateur facilities in the local area, they host numerous regular and first time users and amateur dramatic groups who use it to meet, present and perform, including the Ellendune Entertainers and WADAMS (Wroughton Amateur Dramatic and Musical Society).

The main hall is both spacious, bright and fully equipped with Digital and Analogue speaker sound and PA systems with hand held and hands free microphone PA equipment. Additionally having the servery bar and fully functional kitchen area adjacent to the hall, it also provides a fantastic space and venue for all types of social functions including Wedding Receptions, Birthday Parties and Retirement events alike. During the summer months the spacious garden with ample seating and tables is also inclusive when booking the main hall.

In addition to the larger function suites, there is also a smaller room available, the Alexander Suite, ideal for smaller group meetings and also great for club meetings and AGM’s.

The Ellendune Community Centre is administered by the Ellendune Hall Trust (Registered Charity Number 305601).

The Ridgeway Leisure Centre offers a range of facilities, classes, pool timetable, and memberships to suit the whole community.

The leisure centre is open to the Public 5pm-10pm Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm Saturdays and 8am-3pm Sundays.

No one can predict what’s around the corner, but when the unexpected happens – from a flood or fire, to a local emergency or incident – it pays to be prepared and a little bit of information can go a long way.

This page explains why a household emergency plan is helpful and simple precautions you can take to prepare for a range of situations.

Why Make a Plan?

Your family may not be together when an incident or emergency arises, so it is important to think about what you would do in these situations and plan just in case.  It may seem unnecessary, but when the time comes you will be grateful that you took the time to plan ahead.

Creating a plan

1. Discuss family/household plans for emergencies that might affect you and your local area.  Plan together in advance so that everyone in your household understands what to do in different situations, including a fire evacuation plan.
2. Understand how you will receive local emergency alerts & warnings.
3. Collect Information – create a paper copy of the contact information you may need.
4. Pick an emergency meeting place just in case you need one.  Decide on somewhere safe and familiar where you can go to reunite. Make sure the location is accessible to everyone, so think about disabilities and animal friendly locations if you have pets.
5. Share information – make sure everyone has a copy and keep one centrally at home.
6. Practice your plan.  It may help to practice your plan, just as you would a fire drill.

Consider the following questions:

• What are the important contact numbers you might need (e.g. neighbours, friends, school GP, gas, electric and so on)?
• How will your family/household get in touch if cell phone, internet or landlines don’t work?
• Do you know how to turn off your gas, electric & water supplies?
• How can you get local emergency alerts & warnings (e.g. radio or council)
• How will you let loved ones know you are safe?

Here is a template to help get you started and create a simple household emergency plan.

Twinning with St Germain les Corbeil

In 1986 the Parish Council started looking for a French community to twin with. St Germain les Corbeil were also looking for a partner and in 1987 it was decided that the two communities would twin and that the relationship would be looked after by a Twinning Association.

Over the years exchange visits have taken place between the two communities, including sports tournaments for young people.

St Germain Les Corbeil is a community of around 7,500 people located 29 kilometres South East of Paris.

In January 2016 the Parish Council agreed plans to meet with Wroughton Twinning Association to explore re-establishing a more active twinning relationship with Germain les Corbeil.

Household Waste and Recycling Services

All household waste and recycling services within the parish of Wroughton are provided by Swindon Borough Council.  If you have any concerns or queries regarding these services please contact the SBC on 01793 445501 or ‘report a problem’ directly on their website.

Litter & Dog Waste

Wroughton Parish Council provides dual purpose litter and dog bins in Wroughton which are emptied on a regular basis.  Please contact us if you want to report an issue with any of these bins.

Unfortunately there are still some inconsiderate people that think it is acceptable to let their dogs foul on pavements and playing fields, or leave large bags of dog mess in public areas within the village.

Please bear a thought for the Council’s Grounds Team that are left with the job of clearing up the mess, and if you become aware of anyone abusing these public facilities please let the Parish Office know.
