Coming Soon – Wroughton’s Secret Garden Play Area

Coming Soon – Wroughton’s Secret Garden Play Area

Work on our Community Garden with play equipment will start next Monday, 5th September 2022 and the site will be locked off whilst construction is in progress.

This hidden gem of a play area has needed attention for some time.  Our design brief was for an eco-friendly garden with native tree, plant and edible species which also included some sustainable hard wood play equipment. We want this to be a place where people can enjoy the outdoors, relax on a bench and take their children or grandchildren to play.

Take a look at our plans.  We are working on a 6 week timescale for the groundwork, path and play equipment to be installed and will look to complete our planting during the winter dormancy period of January – March.  We would really like to invite local residents to help with the planting so watch this space for more details of a community engagement day.  If any local organisations might be interested in helping us make some bug hotels, please contact projects@wroughton.gov.uk.

Swindon Borough Council have made a donation towards the play equipment and will be sponsoring our planting scheme. We’re pleased to have Richard James Estate Agents funding two of our new benches as well.  Please note that the planting plans at the moment are an artist impression and will be subject to change.  We are likely to reduce the amount of formal hedging included in the site for maintenance purposes although we are very keen to increase biodiversity from the very limited planting we have on the site now.

If you don’t know where our new play area is we’ll help your find it when work is complete.  It’s tucked away behind some houses on Maskeleyne Way and Boness Road.

Please do have a look at the artist’s impressions of the area.  We’re also delighted to share with you this virtual walkthrough by our play equipment provider Kompan.
