19 Nov Emergency Road Closure tomorrow (Saturday 20th November) on Marlborough Road, Wroughton
Communication from Cathy Martyn:
Tomorrow Marlborough Road will be closed between house nos 19 & 21 to enable Thames Water to dig across the road to repair the water leak.
Thames Water were hoping to deal with this without needing to shut the road. However, they have dug as far across the road as they can without closing it, and they still haven’t come across the source of the leak, which means they need to shut the road in order to dig further across to find it. They’re also going to be replacing the pipe. As there are so many utilities within such a small space, they aren’t allowed to use a digger and will need to dig out most of it by hand. Assuming nothing unforeseen occurs, they are intending to close the road first thing tomorrow morning and re-open it tomorrow evening. Pedestrian access will be maintained through the closure.
Due to the emergency nature of the closure & the short timescale, there has not been time to get bespoke advance warning signs made, so Thames Water will station someone at the roundabout by The Patriots Arms in Chiseldon to stop all HGVs and advise that they can only continue if they are accessing somewhere between that point and the closure (so delivery lorries for example). Any others will be turned back. This is intended to stop the HGVs and buses which ignored all the road closed signs last time the road was closed. SBC or Thames Water will contact the bus companies, the HGV training schools, etc etc to let them know of the closure.
We have asked that the road, pavement & drains are cleaned as soon as possible after the works have been completed.
