Hicks Close – Proposed Road Works

Hicks Close – Proposed Road Works

Dear Sir / Madam,

As a representative for Swindon Borough Council, I write to inform you of patching works programmed along Hicks Close.

The purpose of this scheme is to replace areas of the deteriorating surface prior to a wider surface treatment programme provisionally programmed for the September  / October 2021 to increase the life span of the carriageway and to provide a safer and smoother running surface for road users.

Please find plan attached indicating the extents of where the works will be carried out.

The immediate works involve structural patching followed by resurfacing of the full extents in September / October 2021.

The works will commence on Friday 23rd July for 1 shift between the hours of 12:00 and 20:00, however, on occasions they may over run due to uncontrollable circumstances such as plant breakdowns, if weather conditions are unfavourable, or occasionally we discover the need for additional repairs once the work has started.

Advance information signs will be erected on site giving confirmed start dates.

Due to the nature of the works and the local environment, the works will be carried out within a temporary road closure, to ensure that adequate health & safety is maintained for the Contractor & local residents.

The Contractor will maintain access for residents for the duration of the works; however due to the nature of the works, disruption is inevitable and motorist may be restricted. It is essential that the road remains un-trafficked until the new material has set, as early trafficking could lead to premature failure. Dedicated traffic management operatives at the extent of the works will monitor access and give motorists assistance.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience these works will cause, but trust you will appreciate the necessity for these essential works to maintain Swindon’s highway network.

Should you require any further information in advance of the works please do not hesitate to contact me. If you wish to discuss the works whilst they are in operation, please speak to a member of the workforce who will direct you to the appropriate person.

Kind Regards,

Daniel Ward
