18 Oct Resurfacing of Hicks Close – Update 15th October 2021
Councillor Cathy Martyn Update:
I’ve received the following detailed explanation as to why this has been rescheduled:
‘Firstly, I would like to thank you for your patience during my investigation into this matter as to why the Micro Asphalt programme was unable to commence when initially communicated.
Unfortunately, we have been let down by the Contractor in keeping us up to date with a number of supply chain issues involving their Sub-Contractor.
The Contractor’s supply chain partner have had issues with their materials supply, leading to a number of their crews having to stand down. As you may be aware, the Micro Asphalt surfacing is a seasonal programme and cannot be laid during colder months. This would not necessarily have been an issue had it been communicated appropriately at the time, however changes in personnel within the Sub-Contractor’s organisation led to a failure of this information being passed to the Main Contractor, who continued to inform SBC that previously agreed programme dates could be met.
At this late stage in the season, the Main Contractor did make contact with alternative suppliers in an attempt to fulfil their obligations, however this ultimately proved unsuccessful.
I have however, received a commitment from the Main Contractor that they will prioritise SBC as their first tranche of works during the next suitable season, commencing in March 2022. We will also take this opportunity to continue with the 2022/23 programme of works at the same time.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise this has happened and appreciate how frustrating this is to you and the residents.
I have instructed the Contractor to dismantle the advance notification signage and the Contractor will re-issue letters to any property originally notified with an explanation and full apology for the postponement.’
We will advise of the new dates as soon as we are told.
UPDATE: 14TH OCTOBER 2021. APOLOGIES – WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THIS WORK HAS HAD TO BE RESCHEDULED BY THE CONTRACTOR DUE TO AN UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCE. WE DON’T HAVE ANY OTHER INFO AS YET BUT WE WILL POST FURTHER UPDATES AS & WHEN RECEIVED.
Hicks Close will be resurfaced by Ringway working on behalf of Swindon Borough Council. All residents of Hicks Close should get a mail drop with details.
To facilitate these works, Ringway will be undertaking some minor works to kerbs, footways and carriageway patching beforehand.
The works are provisionally programmed to commence from Tuesday 26th October 2021 for 2 day between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00, however, on occasions they may over run slightly due to circumstances outside of their control such as plant breakdowns, if weather conditions are unfavourable, or occasionally they discover the need for additional repairs once the work has started.
The work force will maintain pedestrian access for the duration; however due to the nature of the works, some disruption is possible and vehicular access may need to be restricted at times. It is essential that areas remain un-trafficked until the new material has set, as early use could lead to premature failure so works will be undertaken in multiple phases.
If you have any queries, please email either me, Cllr Brian Ford or Cllr David Martyn. Thankyou.
