ANNUAL PARISH MEETING – TUESDAY 23rd MAY 2023
Chair address Annual Parish meeting May 23rd 2023
Following on from the successful installation of the very popular Play Park at Thorney Park, the Secret Garden play area is now up and running, just the landscaping to mature.
It is hoped the Weir Field play area will be the latest to get some upgrading this year.
We also had a very successful tree planting at Maunsell Way and Beamont Green.
On top of this the grounds team have carried out all the tasks to keep the village looking great during this time, with an an extra mower joining the fleet
A lot of work is being done at the Moat pond with a maintenance regime provided by the WWT.
The churchyard/cemetery issue is not going away and will need a lot of consultation before a decision can be taken forward.
We need to find money to progress the MW pavilion, we need to make sure the progress we made last year in connecting with the youth of the village isn’t wasted and progress those activities as well.
Workshop
After almost two years working out of shipping containers at Maunsell Way, we have finally been able to secure a unit at the Wroughton Business Park, and hope to move in there in the Autumn.
Upgrade of the office WiFi
The office has been struggling with poor internet for some time, and everyone is pleased that at last we have high speed WiFi in the Ellendune Centre.
Thanks to the Ellendune Trust for the installation, and WPC will take up the ongoing subscription costs.
Lastly, you probably know that Oli is leaving at the end of July to fulfil his ambition to travel. We would like to wish him all the very best for the future and hope he will keep us updated during his time overseas.
We have been successful in engaging Cathy Martyn as Deputy Clerk, starting on June 5th , and Oli will be getting Cathy up to speed during the 2 months handover.
I would like to thank Emma and the whole team for doing such a great job in liaising with us all and all the organisations that helped in the smooth running of the council business, both in the office and around the village.
I would like to thank Lisa as VC, Lyn and Hannah as C&VC for Planning And Highways, Graham and Nathaneal for both C&VC for CA and Open Spaces.
There is going to be a lot of work ahead of us this coming year, and I hope you will all step up and help – there will be a lot of working party meetings as well as the scheduled council meetings.
